How to use Microsoft Front Page 2003 to "Publish" your website
to the WeDoHosting.com Servers.
This tutorial has been prepared for clients that already have created
a Front Page 2003 website (also referred to as a "web") on their
local machine and require the instructions on how to publish it to the WeDoHosting.com
servers. For clients who do not know how to use Front Page 2003, please
|
Step 1
With your existing website open on your hard drive, go into your "File"
menu until it drops down. You will notice a "Publish Site" choice
- click on that to bring up the next screen.
|
|
|
Step 2
A: Now Front Page 2003 will ask you for the publishing
details. In most cases the first choice "Front Page or Sharepoint
Services" will be selected.
B: In the field named "Remote Website Location"
you will enter your domain name - including the "http://www"
- NOTE - if you have not updated your domain name to the WeDoHosting.com
servers - please use the following format:
http://yourdomainname.com.wedodns.com
(note - no "www" and the addition of wedodns.com)
C: Leave the Encrypted SSL option unchecked and choose
"OK" from the bottom
|
|
|
Step 3
Your program will now connect to the web server and will ask you for
a username and password. Please enter the ones provided when you signed
up, of if you are not the person who signed up for the service, please
refer to the setup instructions that were sent for this information.
Once that is entered, click on "Ok" |
|
|
Step 4
In this step, Front Page 2003 will bring up the remote file manager interface.
On the left hand side there is a listing of all your local files, and
on the right hand side you will be looking at the files on the server.
To move your site to the server, select all the files on the left by
clicking ONCE on the top folder, then holding down the "Shift"
key on your keyboard and clicking one more time on the last file in the
group - this should highlight all files as indicated in the screen shot
to the right.
At this point you have 2 choices - you can choose from the "middle
bar" from the top of the 3 buttons to publish your files to the remoter
server, or optionally, from the bottom of the screen - make your publishing
choice and choose "Publish Web Site" |
|
|
Step 5
In most cases, if you have followed "standard" internet conventions,
your main page will be named index.htm or index.html The WeDoHosting.com
servers, by default install a regular index.htm placeholder page for you
until your site is ready. In this instance Front Page has detected that
and wants to know if it should overwrite the existing doc. In 99.99% of
the time that would be a good thing.
If you do not get an error message or if your site still shows the "Coming
Soon" page after you have published it, go into the right hand side
of the screen and deleted the index.html file that our system placed there. |
|
|
Step 6
Now that your site is uploaded you will note the addition of some folders
on your local hard drive. Do not delete these as they are imperative to
the operations of Front Page 2003 and are required to support it.
